For their 3rd anniversary, Dan and Shefali escaped for a night's getaway to a beautiful town on the Pacific coast called Mendocino and stayed at this wonderful inn named MacCallum House. And the best thing of all about this getaway: Priya and Sherlock stayed home with the babysitter Shauna!
We stayed in the Water Tower Suite which is a three-story renovated water tower originally built in the 1800s (there are water towers all over Mendocino that store water and provide water pressure)
The ground floor has this gorgeous and cozy sleigh bed...
...while the second floor has this relaxing jacuzzi
We decided that we would sleep on the top floor of the Water Tower...
...with this breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean
Shefali really liked this painting
Shortly after enjoying some wine and hors d'oeuvres at the inn, we had a fabulous dinner at the famous Cafe Beaujolais
The next morning, after a great night's rest, we enjoyed a phenomenal breakfast at the MacCallum House - Shefali enjoyed a tasty breakfast burrito and Dan had these to-die-for buttermilk whole grain pancakes topped with Bananas Foster. We then set out to explore Mendocino...
...and came upon these bluffs over the Pacific Ocean, called the Mendocino Headlands
There's Shefali trekking out to the edge of one of the bluffs
Dan poses next to water's edge, listening to the crashing waves
Shefali captured this wave breaking over the rocks
Next, we went walking along Big River Beach, just south of Mendocino
Here is a view of the town of Mendocino, which we explored next - we shopped at the Village Toy Store, where we got a play tent for Priya, and had lunch at Patterson's Pub
Uh-oh, the time has come to head home...luckily, there are some great sights on the road back, including this scenic drive through the redwoods...
...and a couple of great wineries, including Husch...
...where we purchased a Muscat Canelli, a Chardonnay, and a dessert Sauvignon Blanc...
...and viewed some Gewurztraminer grape vines
Next up was Navarro winery...
...where we purchased an Edelzwicker and a nonalcoholic Gewurztraminer grape juice for Priya -- clearly when we are buying gifts for Priya from a winery(!), it's time to go home and give her a big hug!
