How We Met

Shefali and Dan met in the nerdiest of all possible places, which is to say a high school math competition. We were both on the team representing New Jersey at the American Regions Math League. The following summer we both went to the New Jersey Governor's School in the Sciences, where we got to know one another and became good friends. The year after that, we went to the prom together. Over the next seven years we dated at one point and lost touch a couple of times, but mostly we just remained good friends.

Dating

In June of 2000 we went on vacation together to South Dakota. We reconnected, and started dating again. Since, at that time, Dan lived in the New York City area and Shefali lived in St. Louis, and now in Columbus, we dated long distance, flying back and forth for the weekend and making good use of those virtually unlimited cell phone plans. Several times a year we go on vacation together, to such exotic locales as Seattle, Nova Scotia, Las Vegas, the Smoky Mountains, New Orleans, and San Francisco. Recently, in November of 2003, Dan moved to Columbus to be with Shefali. At last!! Neither of us particularly liked those pre-dawn trips to the airport on Monday mornings. And finally, no more coming home to an empty apartment. We couldn't be happier (except Dan really should have brought less junk!!!)

The Proposal

Dan proposed on May 5th, 2003, at a scenic overlook with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco.
